Home Away from Home

We are staying at a Bewley's Hotel in the area of Ballsbridge. The hotel is in a great location and is a short bus ride to the city center. We noticed it was an older building which had been beautifully repurposed, and after investigating, found it had been a female orphan school built by the Masonic Order in the 1800s. The grounds and the hotel are really beautiful. The prior hall is now being used as a wedding venue. For more about the history, see http://www.bewleyshotels.com/ballsbridge/history.  It has a great restaurant, friendly staff, free wi-fi, and we will forever be grateful that they found us a room at 9:00 am when check in time is much later! Bewley's is a chain with six hotels in the U.K.

Beautiful colors of fall in Ireland!

  2. When I traveled to Ireland in March of 2010, we stayed at Bewley's Hotel in Leopardstown! It was a wonderful hotel. We enjoyed sitting around and drinking tea every afternoon after a long day in the city. We would take the light rail train into the city. Reading your posts bring back so many great memories!

I can only hope to make a trip like this one day and learn about the place in which I am staying. As a history major, I am happy to see that you learned about the previous uses for the hotel. So interesting! I hope you enjoy your trip, and thank you so much for sharing your journey with all of us!
